13 ‘new’ facts: Vogue’s Insight to the British Royals

Britain Afghanistan

With the new Prince Charles biography, Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Lifewe’re sure to get some new information about the British Royals. Vogue gives us glimpse inside with 13 facts revealed by author Sally Bedell Smith.

Here are three I found particularly interesting

After Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, the dynamics within the royal family changed
Besides Prince Charles, the Queen and Prince Philip have three other children—Princess Royal Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. They’re a nuclear family, but since Prince William and Kate Middleton have added to the next generation in line for the throne, the royal family has become somewhat two-tiered. An example of this came during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee during a flotilla on the Thames. Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry joined the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles on their boat. Princess Anne, Princes Andrew and Edward, and their families rode down the river separately.

Prince Harry participated in at least one missile attack against the Taliban while he was deployed in Afghanistan
Prince Harry has done a fair amount of service, including being deployed to Afghanistan for a 4-month stretch. He was an Apache helicopter pilot and served as a copilot gunner in a missile attack on the Taliban.

The Queen’s death is now more of an open topic
A recent long-form article in The Guardian discussed the secret plan for what will happen when the Queen dies. But among the royal household and the royal family, the Queen apparently believes that an open discussion is “healthy and important.”

Getting serious with Harry & Meghan

mm

As you all know, I love a good theory, especially when there are legitimate clues involved. So last night, while perusing the old Instagram, I decided to check Meghan’s. I was surprised to see her latest post about shutting down her blog, The Tig. What would normally be of little interest to me, this news actually piqued my interest. Because for me, this points to things getting serious for her and Harry. I know that many people expect her exit on Suits to be the ultimate sign — and which I expect to inevitably happen within the next year — but I think this is a sign as well.

While I understand that running a blog is actually a lot of work, cough cough this blog is a prime example, I don’t think she was doing it all herself. And I have a sneaking suspicion she has  lot of down time while holed up at Harry’s Kensington Palace apartment. So why shut it down? Or why not just put it on a hiatus? Something bigger is at play here, and I for one really really hope we have news of an engagement soon because I am beyond intrigued to see how their relationship can bring some life to the British Royal Family. And because we all want Harry to be happy.

Though, of course, this will break my Harry + Chelsy-loving heart… le sigh.

What do you think? Am I reaching or is there something to be said about the shutting down of “The Tig”?

British Royal Lineage: A Brief History

royal-arms-14

The lineage of the British Royal Family is hairy and hard to follow. I must admit, up until a few days ago I was hardly able to begin to explain it. But earlier this week I came across this summary and thought it was incredibly informative and well done. Perhaps you’ll feel the same.

More than anything, it truly shows just how fateful it was for Queen EII to end up on the throne. Plus, how lucky are the Windsors to have a family tree with so much detail! I would love to have libraries full and dedicated to my family’s heritage! 😉

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle: A love match at last?

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-10-33-43

I had no idea who Meghan Markle was until a few weeks ago when her name started popping up in headlines across the web. I googled her a bit, was stunned by her beauty, and found the fling to be rather believable. Emphasis on fling. Then the palace released a statement on Harry’s behalf pleading to leave his new lady in peace, and I knew she must really be something. (Side note: I also thought that must really irk Kate seeing as how she waited for William for ten years during which she was hounded by the press, only William hardly spoke up for her…)  And William just released his own statement on the matter…

Speaking of Kate, the Kate and Meghan comparisons are in full swing. And there’s already rumor aplenty that Kate is already feeling threatened by Meghan (to be taken with a grain of salt, of course).

It’s pretty incredible, to say the least, how far the royals have come in such a short time (relatively speaking), it was only 60 years ago that Princess Margaret was denied her love, Peter Townsend, something worth bringing up because Meghan is a divorcee as was Peter Townsend. But thankfully the Queen seems to have come around, seeing as how Prince Charles married not only a divorcee, but his mistress.

It will be interesting to see how this relationship continues to unfold, I for one hope it ends with the ring, as Harry does seem over the moon, and we’re all hoping Harry finds happiness at last.

What do you think? Should we dust off our fascinators and get ready for a royal wedding?

Crown Princess Mary covers Vogue Australia, August 2016

I’ve written about Royals that have covered Vogue in the past, including Crown Princess Mary. And I think she does it brilliantly. She is not afraid of donning ball gowns and channeling her inner fierce to get some seriously fabulous shots. If I were a Princess, I would follow in Mary’s footsteps opposed to Kate’s when it came to my Vogue shoots. 😉

Edwina McCann introduces the August issue of Vogue Australia.

The job – and it is a job – Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary do is commendable, and I have the utmost admiration for them both. The Crown Princess kindly welcomed Vogue Australia back into her home this month, 12 years after she was first photographed for our cover, soon after her wedding. We discovered a woman at ease with her public life and position, who is driven to use her influence and the privilege it awards her to further causes close to her heart: gender equality and sustainability. She is knowledgeable, fiercely intelligent and well-informed about the issues. The Crown Princess does her homework. She is making her mark as a world leader and passionate advocate in these areas. With her energy and drive I suspect this is still only the beginning of the enormous contribution she will make.

Mary on being a ‘role model’:

“I find it difficult to speak of myself as a role model, as role models are defined by the individual. It is what they see in a person that gives meaning or inspiration to them that makes another person a role model for them,” the Crown Princess said. “It’s not something I consciously think about. But at the same time, I am very aware of my role and my responsibility. If I can inspire others and if others see something in me that can motivate them, then that’s a big compliment.” (Vogue)

So what do you think? Do you find Mary’s approach better or Kate’s?

The Christening of Prince Oscar of Sweden (In Photos)

The Prince was christened Oscar Carl Olof

People magazine writes:

One of Sweden’s newest little princes, H.R.H. Prince Oscar Carl Olof, was baptized with royal pomp and ceremony at a service held at Stockholm’s Royal Palace Chapel on Friday.

The only son of Crown Princess Victoria, 38, and her husband Prince Daniel, 42, Prince Oscar, who was born on March 2, is third in the line of succession to the Swedish throne, after both his mother and his elder sister Princess Estelle.

During the service, Prince Oscar was wrapped in the family heirloom christening gown previously worn by his uncle and grandfather: It dates back to Prince Oscar’s forebears in the early 20th century.

Following Bernadotte family tradition, Oscar’s name will be embroidered into the lining of the satin woven silk cape, alongside the names of previous wearers including the current King Carl XVI Gustaf and, most recently, nearly 1-year-old Prince Nicolas.

How do the Swedish Royals always look so incredibly stylish while also seeming super down to Earth? I have a feeling CP Victoria and Princess Madeleine would be wildly fun to have as friends…

Also, Princess Madeleine also posted this on her Facebook page last night and it absolutely melted my heart. I grew up with my cousins and will forever consider them to be some of my best friends, so this struck an especially close chord for me.princess-madeleine-435.jpg

Chelsy Davy talks ‘regrets’ with Town & Country Magazine

Chelsy-Davy--d.jpg

It’s no secret that I still hope Harry & Chelsy work things out; those kids have something special. So when I read this headline I wept a little inside. And I have a sneaking suspicion had Harry read it as well, he probably had a similar reaction…

Chelsy was interviewed for the print edition of Town & Country Magazine (UK edition), and had this to say upon being asked if she had any regrets about not becoming a princess:

“Oh, goodness! No, I’m very happy with that I’m doing right now,” she says fervently. “I’m very sure of who I am and what I want out of life.”

I mean, I’m not sure what they expected her to say? Then again, she does come off rather confident in her answer.

I was shocked to learn she was living back in Africa and not practicing law. Celebitchy explains:

After she graduated from law school, Chelsy worked for a few years in London, but she returned back to her homeland in Africa to start her own business. The business is called Aya Africa, and it’s all about non-conflict jewelry.

That seems pretty cool. And it sounds right up Harry’s alley.

I hope these crazy kids work things out.

Happy Mother’s Day! (A small update.)

Hi everyone!

I first want to apologize for having pretty much disappeared from the royal scene. I have been absurdly busy with work since the start of the year. (How is it almost June?!)

In any case, I have been following along on twitter and have had more than enough thoughts on all things royal; The India tour! Crown Princess Victoria’s new baby! Prince Carl Philip’s new baby! Princess Charlotte’s new photos! The Queen’s 90th birthday! I can hardly keep up.

But this blog has definitely been on my list of things to catch up on, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing this summer. I know, I know, I say that a lot. But this time I will put it as a higher priority as it is one of my favorite hobbies.

prince-harry-d-435

In the meantime, I wish all of you mothers a wonderful Mother’s Day and leave you with this sweet interview with Prince Harry from People Magazine.

In an intimate interview, Prince Harry speaks to PEOPLE about wanting kids, bringing his Invictus Games to America and how his mother, Princess Diana, continues to inspire him.

He lost his mom, Princess Diana, at age 12, but now Prince Harry is opening up about her profound influence.

“All I want to do is make my mother incredibly proud,” he tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview in this week’s cover story. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”

Speaking in the Audience Room of Kensington Palace just before he set off for his Invictus Games in Orlando – on Wednesday he’ll make a stop in Palm Beach, Fla., for a charity polo match – the royal, 31, reflected on the ways in which his late mom continues to inspire him.

“When she died, there was a gaping hole, not just for us but also for a huge amount of people across the world,” he says. “If I can try and fill a very small part of that, then job done. I will have to, in a good way, spend the rest of my life trying to fill that void as much as possible. And so will William.” (People.)

Fights with Kim Kardashian, boob job denials, whale confrontations, & more…

Royal rumours

I had to round up a few of these headlines after I read them, they were too hard to resist. I won’t provide any additional commentary, just let you chime in with your take. 😉
