New Book Claims Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl Thought Marriage of Prince Charles and Diana Was ‘Idiotic’

ap8406100373-1-A new book has been released and claims to expose the true feelings former German chancellor Helmut Kohl had regarding various heads of state during his time as the head of Germany from 1982-1998.

Though Mr.Kohl is said to have tried vehemently to halt the book’s publication, it published nevertheless and seems to contain some fascinating insight.

The Daily Mail writes:

The former German chancellor Helmut Kohl branded the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana ‘idiotic’, an explosive new book has claimed.

The 84-year-old, who led Germany from 1982 to 1998, also added that had Diana become queen immediately, she ‘would have done her bit in bed’.

It has also emerged he described Prince Philip as a ‘blockhead’ and accused former prime minister Margaret Thatcher of falling asleep at meetings.

The claims come in a controversial book by by journalist Heribert Schwan and is based on extensive interviews with the former chancellor.

According to the book, Mr Kohl told Mr Schwan that while Prince Charles was ‘entirely friendly’, he was unimpressed with his marriage to Diana Spencer in 1981.

He said: ‘Her marriage was an absolutely idiotic affair.

‘Had she become queen immediately she would have done her bit in bed, created three princes and her duty to the nation would have been fulfilled. But like this she had to travel around, talk to mayors and so on and then she withered away.’ (Daily Mail)

I don’t think he said anything particularly damning, but I understand a person, especially a public figure, not wanting their personal views remembered ahead of their political career.

On Tinder, Buckingham Palace, and the Ultimate Pick-Up Line…

queen-and-buckingham-palace-security-concerned-about-tinder-and-grindr-dating-apps

My new favorite news story deserves one of my all-time favorite .gifs…

Social media meets royals is one of the most entertaining aspects of modern day monarchies. From Instagram to #Selfies, I find it all to be highly amusing. It’s no surprise that when I read this piece on Celebitchy today I couldn’t help but share it here.

You see, palace workers have been using Tinder and other various “hook-up” apps and the grounds have, in turn, seen an increasing number of guests stopping by. Of course, this causes extra security issues and the like, but can you imagine the stories? Holy moly. I somehow think a “walk of shame” from Kensington Palace would be one for the ages.

Buckingham Palace staff have sparked internal security fears by bringing casual partners met over dating apps back to their living quarters. Police guarding the royal residences are said to be ‘deeply concerned’ at the number of unvetted overnight guests, many of whom appear to be casual acquaintances met online. Apps such as Tinder and Grindr allow smartphone users to find potential love matches nearby using GPS locators. And according to well-placed sources, a number of the Queen’s 800-plus staff are said to use such online dating tools.

While most live-in servants –including butlers, maids and kitchen staff – are not allowed to bring guests into Buckingham Palace itself, they are permitted to sign in visitors to their living quarters at St James’s Palace and the Royal Mews. This situation is not new, but the rise of dating apps has sparked concerns among the Metropolitan Police that servants are bringing back guests whom they know nothing about.

The source said: ‘There are real and serious security concerns at Buckingham Palace about members of staff use of dating apps such as Tinder, which can be rather sleazy. The palace police are particularly unhappy about the number of guests of servants staying overnight, especially when they may have only just met on Tinder. They know nothing of the guests’ background and say they could be anyone. It is a security nightmare, especially in the current climate. The guests are allowed to stay at St James’s Palace but some have complained that when they leave they get asked “a million questions” byofficers. But police say they are only doing their job.’

Kate’s Throwing Prince Harry a 30th Birthday Party Using Her Party Pieces Skills

tumblr_mrxzg1fF611r3innio1_500

The Duchess is putting her past-work experience to use by planning Prince Harry’s upcoming 30th birthday bash. She’s going to turn a room in Kensington Palace into a “nightclub,” because I heard those are hard to find in London. I’m sure Harry is THRILLED she invited all of his exes and has taken this milestone celebration upon her self and used her Party Pieces connections to make it memorable. (This is all very reminiscent of The Office (US) episode when Michael Scott turns the Michael Scott Paper Company office into a Cafe Disco…)

Kate Middleton’s finally putting her party-planning genes to good use for her brother-in-law’s upcoming 30th birthday.

According to The Mirror (so, take this with a big ole salt mine…), the Duchess is throwing Prince Harry a massive, club-themed party at Kensington Palace on September 15. Festive! The extravaganza is reportedly set to involve “sexy dancers,” schmancy cocktails, Beach Boys songs (?), and coasters printed with pics of the Ginger One—some of which we hope will find their way to eBay in the days following. Night club owner Guy Pelly— who runs several of Harry’s fave haunts, including London’s Tonteria and Sloane Square—is said to be assisting K-Mid in the arrangements.

But the real gems lie in the alleged guest list. As per the tab, no fewer than three of Harry’s exes have been invited to help ring in the big three-oh: party girl Chelsy Davy, who broke off her six-year relationship with Harry in 2010; scrunchie-maven Cressida Bonas, who split with Harry in April; and former Miss Edinburgh Camilla Thurlow, who was just recently seen smooching the Prince. (Unfortunately, it seems future girlfriends have been left off the list—though I’m keeping my calendar open just in case.)

Said The Mirror’s anonymous insider, “Harry has no problem with seeing his exes all under the same roof. Let’s just hope they don’t either.” Sounds a bit like the plotline of a bad MTV reality show, no? (Elle)

Controversial Move Causes Public to Question Need for Norwegian Royalty

norwegen

The Norwegian Royal Family has been rife with controversy lately. From rumblings of a possible separation of the Crown Princely couple, to the recent decision of the couple to send their children to private school, they’ve provided much to be debated over the past couple of months.

With every debate comes the ultimate query: Is royalty even needed anymore? The State explains the question at hand further:

In egalitarian Norway, the choice for the further education of 10-year-old Princess Ingrid Alexandra and 8-year-old Prince Sverre Magnus seemed a denunciation of the education of the rest of the children in this wealthy nation of only 5 million. But while a fuss over moving royals from classes with common children might seem a non-issue in the non-royal United States, it actually gets at a single question about much of the remaining royalty of Europe: Why?

The author continues:

Norwegian historian Finn Erhard Johannessen, from the University of Oslo, said supporting a royal family remained a source of pride in his nation but that there were limits.

“Norwegians like having a royal family,” he said. “But they don’t want them to act too royally.”

Polls indicate that about 4 of 5 Norwegians back the monarchy, though most of those essentially with a “why not?” instead of undying passion for the institution.

Johannessen said Norwegians thought their royals were nice people. Part of that is living like anyone else.

“People want the royal children to be in school with the children of immigrants,” he noted.

Anders Folkestad, the head of Norway’s teachers union, told local media that the move sends a bad message: “Does it say private schools are better than public? Must one go to an international school to learn English?” (The State)

The article goes on to discuss the monarchy’s past issues and its possible future.

It’s an interesting move on behalf of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit, and it leaves a lot to be answered. In a move they had to have known would have such repercussions, you have to wonder what could be so dire that they make this decision.

British Royal Rumors and Happenings

Latest British Royal News

Let’s start this Monday with the most intriguing bits of British Royal gossip…

182777

Prince Harry is reportedly seeing Camilla Thurlow (pictured above), the Scottish beauty he was seen snogging with back in June.

With the revelation of this potential romance comes, of course, rumors of Cressida wanting Harry back.

Harry was publicly linked to Camilla this week and the new duo seem to have a lot more in common than Harry and Cressida ever did. Camilla is a beauty queen that works for The Halo Trust, the anti-landmine organization that was closely linked to Harry’s beloved mother, Princess Diana. Aside from those things Camilla is hardly the wallflower that Cressida was. Instead she is known to be the life of the party and can keep up with Harry’s drinking when challenged. Girlfriend works and plays hard, just like Harry. (Celebrity Dirty Laundry)

Harry-Main

Prince Harry continues to make his brother, Prince William, look like an amateur, issuing a poignant piece regarding his time in war, as well as announcing his hope to remain in the army until the age of 55.

Harry revealed his career plans last week at an event in Folkestone, Kent, while paying tribute to the thousands of British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in the First World War.

The royal said he was “incredibly moved” by the commemorations and was “proud” to have played a part in them.

A source said: “Harry was chatting quite informally and was talking about life in the Army. He said ‘I love it – it’s the best job in the world. I’m staying in until I can draw my pension – if they’ll let me’.” (Mirror)

Meanwhile, the media is continuing to spread word that Prince William “goes back to work” — pretty much acknowledging that he hasn’t been working for a while… — and there is a mixed reaction. Of course, here in the US, the media paints it as a way for the “little family” to stay as normal as possible. The US press loves to romanticize the royals, which I admit to buying into, but British press seems mixed on the matter. This piece calls Prince William out for being an adult, yet acting more like a child.

The nation has been very patient with William. We understood his reluctance as a young man to take on the royal mantle after the death of his mother. We respected his request for privacy while at university, then in the military. We indulged his little whim to undertake a course at Cambridge in agriculture.

But the reluctant Prince — who’s known to have inherited his father’s petulance — now appears to be becoming a rather selfish one, still dodging the royal draft, but keeping all the privileges that come with it. (Daily Mail)

1Yesterday I posted about the latest Vanity Fair Best-Dressed List. I didn’t mention Kate’s being mentioned in the “Hall of Fame” because I really don’t care. It’s such a joke of a statement that I don’t really care to draw attention to it. But, it happened. And it’s ridiculous.

Georgemojis, Plus a Stroll in the Park with Mum

Almost as ridiculous as this fawning over the fact Kate took Prince George to the Princess Diana Memorial section of Kensington Park. There are no photos — the photo above is from a different outting — and they only stayed for 15 minutes… but it’s like candy for the media. I can’t help think this may be a way to deter from the previously mentioned ongoing criticism of her and Will’s ever-changing life plans…

There’s so much going on, but nothing too exciting gossip-wise. Except for Harry’s news… I’m genuinely happy for Prince Harry. He seems so down to earth and grateful for the live and platform he has been given… Prince William and Kate could benefit from following his lead.

Prince William Announces Plans to Put Off Royal Duties for Job As Air Ambulance Pilot

Prince William Announces Plans for New Job…surprises no one.

We all saw this coming. Despite the £4.5 million renovations done on Kensington Palace, Prince William and Kate Middleton are hightailing it out of London for greener pastures.

Since leaving the RAF at Anglesey, where he was based for more than three years, William, 32, has been eager to get back to flying and is set to complete what officials call “a mandatory period of training this autumn and winter.”

He will start work at the area bases at Cambridge and Norwich airports in spring 2015, flying night and day shifts, which will allow for him and wife Kate, also 32, to live primarily at Anmer Hall, their 10-bedroom mansion near Sandringham. The home is undergoing renovations and it is known that the couple want to use it as their base. Although Kensington Palace is the main official residence, they will settle in their country home. “They want to live up there as much as possible,” a source close to them tells PEOPLE.

“They are going to be Norfolk-based and coming to London every so often, rather than London-based and going off for a weekend in Norfolk,” the source says. (People)

Celebitchy — one of my favorite sites for celebrity/royal news — had a lot of good points to make. Like how their essentially creating a job for William out of thin-air… pun intended. Oh, and a commenter smartly pointed out that while his salary will be contributed to charity, it’s still a salary that could be given to other, non-royals, in need of a job pilots.

I’m slowly becoming more and more over these two. What about you?

Former Royal Aide to Prince Philip and Princess Anne Accused of Sexual Assault

Former Royal Aide to Prince Philip and Princess Anne Accused of Sexual Assault

Benjamin Herman, 79 — former aide to Prince Philip and Princess Anne — will face charges next week in court after being accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl back in the early 1970s.

The Telegraph reports:

The Duke of Edinburgh’s former equerry has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Benjamin Herman, who went on to become a trusted aide to Princess Anne, will appear in court next week to face three counts of indecent assault and one of attempted indecent assault on the girl in the 1970s, when he was working for Prince Philip.

The ex-marine, 79, told a newspaper reporter he would fight the charges.

Police are believed to have scoured Prince Philip’s official diaries from January 1972 to January 1974, the period when Herman is accused of carrying out the attacks.

Officers have also taken statements from former Buckingham Palace staff, it was reported last night.
