A new baby prince & other royal news from Sweden

It’s been far too long since a proper royal update, and for that I am truly sorry. Sadly, this is merely a side hobby, and real life obligations take precedence. Le sigh. But I’m here now, so let’s get on with it, shall we?

Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip & Princess Sofia welcomed a sweet baby boy to their family of three! I have to admit, I love the low-key approach they take to presenting him to the world. The Swedish royals are just so… relatable? (As much as one can relate to a royal family. 😉 )  The name of the new baby has yet to be revealed.

Princess Madeleine Baby Announcement

In other exciting Swedish family news… Princess Madeleine revealed on her Facebook that she & Chris are expecting baby no. 3! I love how she communicates directly with everyone on Facebook. I wonder if Kate will someday do the same… (highly doubtful, but a gal can dream).

The Christening of Prince Nicolas of Sweden (In Photos)

The Prince was christened Nicolas Paul Gustaf

People magazine writes:

When it comes to royal christenings, Princess Charlotte may have some competition.

Sweden’s newest little prince, H.R.H. Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf, Duke of Angermanland, was baptized in royal splendor at the Royal Chapel in the Drottningholm Palace, Stockholm, on Sunday.

Nicolas, the son of Princess Madeleine, 33, and her British-American husband Christopher O’Neill, 41, was born on June 15, only a few days after his parents attended the royal wedding for Madeleine’s older brother Prince Carl Philip. Nicolas’ connection to his uncle will be further cemented at the christening, as Carl Philip is set to serve as his godfather. The handsome prince is no stranger to godfather duty – he is already one to Nicolas’ cousin Princess Estelle.

Much like the British royal family, the Swedes have christening traditions of their own. Nicolas wore a christening gown that had previously been worn by Carl Philip during his christening in 1979.

Nicolas’ christening marks the third major royal baptism of this year. Monaco’s royal twins, Gabriella ThĂŠrĂŠse Marie and Jacques HonorĂŠ Rainier Grimaldi, were christened in May, while Prince William and Princess Kate‘s daughter was baptized in July.

As with Charlotte’s christening, Nicolas’ elder sibling, 19-month-old Princess Leonore, stole the show.

Can we just take a minute to talk about how STUNNING Princess Madeleine looks? She exudes happiness and it’s absolutely wonderful to see.

On a gossip note: It seems that Emma Pernald, Prince Carl Philip’s ex before Sofia was invited to be a guest, seeing as how she’s one of Madeleine’s best friends, but was asked not to attend at the request of Carl Philip and Sofia? So many questions, so little time. I can kind of see that happening. But I don’t know, do Carl Philip and Sofia really have that much power?

My Swedish Royal Wedding Adventure: Pt. I

Screen Shot 2015-06-19 at 10.58.50When I moved back to Germany last October, I made a vow (pun intended) to myself that I would make it to a royal wedding, and lucky for me a longtime blog friend who lives in Stockholm kindly offered to host me. So, back in January I submitted my vacation requests for the summer—shoutout to Germany’s generous allotment of vacation days, 28 for me per year! My coworkers laughed it off, they couldn’t believe i was literally going to Stockholm to see the Swedish wedding.

Side note: Hey to all my coworkers reading this right now. 😉 So glad that this little blog made its rounds through the office mail (HA!) I’m only a little bit embarrassed, except not in the least.

Two months ago I bought my tickets to Sweden and that was that.

I arrived in Sweden last Thursday and immediately fell in love with everything. And then I met my longtime blog friend and she gifted me the plates shown above. I screamed with joy.

These plates are a big deal to me on so many levels, first of which, HELLO, ROYAL MEMORABILIA. Secondly, I just moved into my very own first-all-mine apartment and have approximately no things. These plates are my first grown-up-household-gift. And lastly, I’m so flattered that my friend would bestow them to me, I’ll have them forever, and forever be thankful for her kind gesture.

So after I came down (actually, I’ll probably never fully recover) from my initial Sweden high, I had a lot of preparing to do for the wedding. And by that I mean I had to figure out where to go and how to get there and the best place to stand. Which really only took 20 minutes of research in reality. But let’s pretend like I had a room with pictures and articles posted all over the walls with strings connecting them all like I made this into a proper operation. (Or maybe not, because that image sounds a bit too real and a bit like I’m a nutcase.)

Really I was bumming wifi off the neighborhood coffee shop trying to sift through Swedish news sites for any info. But that’s neither here, nor there…

Site Updates and New Photos of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia of Sweden

Scandi Mags

Firstly, I must say I’m sorry for the lack of posts recently. It’s been for a good reason, promise: I have moved to Hamburg! I was excited to have been offered a job here back in beautiful Germany last month and couldn’t pass it up. Germany is, of course, a second home to me.

And, I’d be lying if I said the idea of getting to read royal mags about Scandinavian Royals on the reg did sweeten the deal a whole lot. 😉 I already have this week’s prized collection of scoop and cannot wait to share my findings.

So, let’s get down to it, shall we?

The Swedish Royal Court released yet another batch of photos of the recently betrothed Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist. I really like her hair and dress this round. She looks very regal. And of course, Prince Carl Philip looks dashing, as per usual.

What We Know About Prince Carl Philip’s FiancĂŠe, Sofia Hellqvist

1200 (29)

Since the engagement was announced, it seems articles are popping up everywhere about Crown Prince Philip’s new fiancĂŠe… but first, I think it’s important to know a bit of background on the soon-to-be Swedish princess…

10. Sofia Kristina Hellqvist was born on December 6, 1984 to a modest family in Täby, Sweden.

9. She finished her basic schooling, then moved to Stockholm to work as a waitress and pursue a career as a “glamour model.”

8. In 2004, at the age of 20, she won the title of Miss Slitz from the men’s magazine Slitz.

7. After being awarded the title, Sofia was offered a spot on the reality TV show Paradise Hotel. She made it to the finale, however did not win.

6. She then moved to New York to work as a yoga instructor. It was during this time she lived with an older boyfriend and his child.

5. Upon moving back to Sweden, Sofia began frequenting the clubs Prince Carl Philip was known for visiting, and consequently ended up meeting him.

6. Sofia moved in with Carl Philip in 2011, less than a year after his split from long-term girlfriend Emma Pernald.

5. She has done various nude photos shoots, one of her earliest being when she was 16, which required her parents to sign off, as well as leave Sweden for the photos to be shot.

4. Sofia began work with the charity Project Playground in 2010, quite soon after she started dating Carl Philip.

3. She once made out with Jenna Jameson.

2. Queen Silvia took some convincing before she approved of the pair.

1. She has ruffled quite a few feathers, however, the royal PR machines seem to be doing an excellent job of “white-washing” her image.

But, as is true for all, the internet always remembers. Love, Lola has Sofia “in her own words” which is very interesting, indeed. I wonder, though, how many of her comments have been lost in translation… but then again, perhaps I am giving Sofia too much credit.

More engagement photos released of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist

Prince Carl Philip EngagementPrince Carl Philip Engagement Prince Carl Philip Engagement Prince Carl Philip EngagementAfter announcing their engagement last week, new engagement photos of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist have been released.

It’s interesting to note that since the announcement, Princess Madeleine is the only member of the royal family to have sent her congratulations “formally,” with an announcement on her official Facebook page.

It’s also to be noted the amount of controversy swirling around Sofia Hellqvist.

I don’t know what to think of it all. What is your take?

Catching up: Royal News and Gossip

Royal Headlines

Firstly, I’d like to apologize again for being absent these past few weeks. Especially when so much has been going on. Great timing, eh?

But enough about me, let’s get down to business.

Swedish Prince falls out of line for Hottest Royal Bachelor

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is no longer on our list of hottest royal bachelors, le sigh. But not because of his hotness waning (nope, it seems he’s actually getting better with age, however that’s possible), rather, he’s no longer a bachelor. This past week the Swedish Royal Court announced his engagement to girlfriend of four years, Sofia Hellqvist. Collective sigh.

But there’s a silver lining in this news… two words: ROYAL. WEDDING. Yes!

And this will be a good one, you guys. I feel it in my peasant bones.

Kate and William taking the heat about kitchens

I’ve never known someone to be dubbed so many nicknames by the media. The Duchess of Cambridge is now being called “Two Kitchen Kate” after it being reported that she has had two kitchens installed in their Kensington Palace apartment, and there’s a possible third to be installed, this time in Anmer Hall.

The additions come on the heels of new royal spending reports, and the cost of renovations have now surpassed  £4 million.

Grand Ducal Grandparents

The Royal Ducal couple, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, announced the birth of their granddaughter, Amalia, to joyful, first-time parents Prince Felix and Claire of Luxembourg on June 15.

The Prince of Tours

Prince Harry has proven to be a dedicated royal worker during the past few months. In May he went on his Estonia/Italy tour, and this month he’s been busy in South America. He visited children with disabilities, fixed one couple’s TV, watched soccer, and all-around charmed, as expected. He even spoke of his nephew, Prince George, comparing him to a baby Winston Churchill. Raise your hand if you’re more than ready to see the two Princes interact for the masses? The cuteness may be too much, though. I can only imagine that preciousness.

Whew! That was a lot to catch up on! Don’t worry, lots of posts in the works for this week. Who’s ready?
