British Royal Rumors and Happenings

Latest British Royal News

Let’s start this Monday with the most intriguing bits of British Royal gossip…

Prince Harry is reportedly seeing Camilla Thurlow (pictured above), the Scottish beauty he was seen snogging with back in June.

With the revelation of this potential romance comes, of course, rumors of Cressida wanting Harry back.

Harry was publicly linked to Camilla this week and the new duo seem to have a lot more in common than Harry and Cressida ever did. Camilla is a beauty queen that works for The Halo Trust, the anti-landmine organization that was closely linked to Harry’s beloved mother, Princess Diana. Aside from those things Camilla is hardly the wallflower that Cressida was. Instead she is known to be the life of the party and can keep up with Harry’s drinking when challenged. Girlfriend works and plays hard, just like Harry. (Celebrity Dirty Laundry)

Harry-Main

Prince Harry continues to make his brother, Prince William, look like an amateur, issuing a poignant piece regarding his time in war, as well as announcing his hope to remain in the army until the age of 55.

Harry revealed his career plans last week at an event in Folkestone, Kent, while paying tribute to the thousands of British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in the First World War.

The royal said he was “incredibly moved” by the commemorations and was “proud” to have played a part in them.

A source said: “Harry was chatting quite informally and was talking about life in the Army. He said ‘I love it – it’s the best job in the world. I’m staying in until I can draw my pension – if they’ll let me’.” (Mirror)

Meanwhile, the media is continuing to spread word that Prince William “goes back to work” — pretty much acknowledging that he hasn’t been working for a while… — and there is a mixed reaction. Of course, here in the US, the media paints it as a way for the “little family” to stay as normal as possible. The US press loves to romanticize the royals, which I admit to buying into, but British press seems mixed on the matter. This piece calls Prince William out for being an adult, yet acting more like a child.

The nation has been very patient with William. We understood his reluctance as a young man to take on the royal mantle after the death of his mother. We respected his request for privacy while at university, then in the military. We indulged his little whim to undertake a course at Cambridge in agriculture.

But the reluctant Prince — who’s known to have inherited his father’s petulance — now appears to be becoming a rather selfish one, still dodging the royal draft, but keeping all the privileges that come with it. (Daily Mail)

1Yesterday I posted about the latest Vanity Fair Best-Dressed List. I didn’t mention Kate’s being mentioned in the “Hall of Fame” because I really don’t care. It’s such a joke of a statement that I don’t really care to draw attention to it. But, it happened. And it’s ridiculous.

Georgemojis, Plus a Stroll in the Park with Mum

Almost as ridiculous as this fawning over the fact Kate took Prince George to the Princess Diana Memorial section of Kensington Park. There are no photos — the photo above is from a different outting — and they only stayed for 15 minutes… but it’s like candy for the media. I can’t help think this may be a way to deter from the previously mentioned ongoing criticism of her and Will’s ever-changing life plans…

There’s so much going on, but nothing too exciting gossip-wise. Except for Harry’s news… I’m genuinely happy for Prince Harry. He seems so down to earth and grateful for the live and platform he has been given… Prince William and Kate could benefit from following his lead.

Prince William Announces Plans to Put Off Royal Duties for Job As Air Ambulance Pilot

Prince William Announces Plans for New Job…surprises no one.

We all saw this coming. Despite the £4.5 million renovations done on Kensington Palace, Prince William and Kate Middleton are hightailing it out of London for greener pastures.

Since leaving the RAF at Anglesey, where he was based for more than three years, William, 32, has been eager to get back to flying and is set to complete what officials call “a mandatory period of training this autumn and winter.”

He will start work at the area bases at Cambridge and Norwich airports in spring 2015, flying night and day shifts, which will allow for him and wife Kate, also 32, to live primarily at Anmer Hall, their 10-bedroom mansion near Sandringham. The home is undergoing renovations and it is known that the couple want to use it as their base. Although Kensington Palace is the main official residence, they will settle in their country home. “They want to live up there as much as possible,” a source close to them tells PEOPLE.

“They are going to be Norfolk-based and coming to London every so often, rather than London-based and going off for a weekend in Norfolk,” the source says. (People)

Celebitchy — one of my favorite sites for celebrity/royal news — had a lot of good points to make. Like how their essentially creating a job for William out of thin-air… pun intended. Oh, and a commenter smartly pointed out that while his salary will be contributed to charity, it’s still a salary that could be given to other, non-royals, in need of a job pilots.

I’m slowly becoming more and more over these two. What about you?

The Commonwealth Games and the Royal Photobomb

The Commonwealth Games kicked off last week in Glasgow, and so far have produced two incredible royal snaps.

First, members of the Australian hockey team were epically photobombed by Her Majesty herself (she’s even smiling!).

Then, Prince Harry followed in his sassy grandmother’s footsteps with another photobomb for the books.

Meanwhile, not to be outdone, the future King and Queen of England were hamming it up for the cameras, too.

What do you think: Who does Prince George most resemble?

Who does Prince George most resemble
[Left to right: Kate, Prince George, Prince William]

Since his birth, or perhaps, even before, there’s been tons of speculation as to whether Prince George looks more like his mom, the Duchess of Cambridge, or his dad, Prince William. Lately it seems more and more media outlets have been leaning toward him looking like Prince William.

I’m not convinced. (This wasn’t even a little bit challenging…)

While Prince George and Prince William as a tot both have similar body language (lots of wiggling!), and wear similar outfits (I’m all about classic baby looks, Prince George’s look is timeless chic…), I personally think he looks like a Middleton.

What do you think?

BONUS:

When asked about his nephew recently, Prince Harry said, “He’s growing up. He is walking, and he has big, chubby cheeks. He looks like a young Winston Churchill.”

Pixelated Princess

The Daily Mail blurred Kate’s bum. I seriously think they may have a member of the design department dedicated to blurring these indiscretions.

Yet another pictures has surfaced featuring the Duchess’s bum. One bystander of the event came forward recently with the photo. This “breach of privacy” happened literally days after Kate’s infamous landing in New Zealand first thing of the tour.

And, as I mentioned long ago, this wasn’t her first “Marilyn Moment.” For pete’s sake, there are enough moments like this that some sites have compiled slideshows.

The Ingenious that is ‘Underwear’

Here’s the thing: upon Kate’s first incident–of this tour–she should have either inserted weights in her hems, or worn a slip. Or maybe, I don’t know, a pair of underwear (call me crazy)... Heck, had I been her I would have put on Spanx over a pair of underwear–and most likely I would now be a never-nude a la Tobias Fuenke.

Royal DishI think that’s the reaction many would have after such incidents.

But really, she should have had such reactions after the first time it happened on tour, in Canada. The fact that those are among the first photos that pop up when you search “Kate Middleton Canada” should be a wake up call. And the fact that when you type in “Kate Middleton Dre…” it autocorrects with “Kate Middleton Dress Blows Up,” would make you think she’d be a bit more thoughtful about her undergarments in the future.

Breach of Privacy or Breach of Wardrobe?

So was it a “breach of privacy?” Firstly: I’m against the selling of such photos that someone has snapped, accidentally or purposely… but I do think calling this incident a “breach of privacy” is a stretch. It was at a public event. She was aware of the task at hand and the appropriate thing to wear. She decided against protecting herself from such incidents and decided to take a chance.

In fact, it wasn’t even a “wardrobe malfunction.” Everything functioned correctly. Her dress was made to flutter should there be wind. Her lack of underwear (or whatever she did wear) kept her bum uncovered, and voila. It’s not rocket science.

And had it been a “wardrobe malfunction,” she is still responsible. When Janet Jackson coined the phrase, she and the CBS network faced large fines…

How to stop your Marilyn moments, Kate

When articles are dedicated to informing you of how not to flash your bum, it’s time to take a hint.

Royal Rewind: Week of May 16, 2014

Princess Ingrid Alexandra attends Parliament 2014

Note: Let’s skip to the good stuff. If you want day-by-day rundowns of what the royals around the world were up to this past week, this site is far better at keeping up than I am.

This week in Royal news…

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway attended her first Parliament session, and looked darling. (Pictured above.)

Prince William and Prince Charles fought about getting rid of collection of ivory. (Parents, am I right? The old ‘burning the ivory” bickering.)

Prince William became president of scuba club (clearly stepping up his work load…) and said he hopes Prince George will follow in his father’s scuba fins steps.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark showed support for Eurovision.

The Duke of Cambridge stepped out for first engagement since tour.

The King of Sweden presented scholarships for 50th Anniversary Fund for Science, Technology, and the Environment.

Prince Harry sent his ‘first’ tweet.

Zara Phillips celebrated her 33rd birthday.

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended concert for the elderly.

Crown Princess Victoria presented award at recycling day.

Prince Harry on tour to Estonia and Italy to celebrate war heroes. (And flew EasyJet.)

Around the web…

Ralph Lauren peeved at Kate’s no-show at event.

Prince Harry had all kinds of fun during his Memphis jaunt, including an anonymous blonde…

‘Grace of Monaco’ film receives ‘worse reviews than Diana.’ (Meaning it must be terrible.)

Prince Harry put in ‘offer’ of dreamy pub.

The Queen’s latest portrait (the one where she smiles) now in color.

What do you think: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Solo Strategy

Kate and William go soloPrince William hosted a gala this week at Windsor Castle to honor the work of the Royal Marsden Hospital. One of the hospitals donors Ralph Lauren helped turn the castle into a “Windsor Wonderland.”

‘Spreading their influence’

Allegedly Kate didn’t show to the event because of the couple’s wish to ‘spread their influence.’

I read that in two ways:

Prince William is worried about Kate overshadowing him at events.

Things are rocky in paradise, the pair must only be together when absolutely necessary (royal tours).

It just seems so suspicious.

I understand in matters of, say, a doctor receiving an award and them not wanting Kate’s hair to steal the show, but when it’s a celebrity ball… isn’t it all about everything Kate brings to the table? Picture perfect gowns, snow-white teeth, dazzling jewels? Isn’t that half the fun of being a Princess? And isn’t that the kind of thing you look forward to doing with your husband (prince or not)?

Color me confused.

What’s your take?

Bonus: Emma Watson looked stunning, and knowing this made her meeting with William that much better.

The Latest Buzz: Prince William flew among peasants; Prince Harry wants Cressida back; Where are Kate and George?

Prince William and economy (seating)

Prince William Flies Econony

People are praising Prince William after a US reporter tweeted a photo of the Prince flying ‘coach’ (a term Americans use for economy seating) on an American Airlines flight from Memphis to Dallas. In the words of Doge, Much brave. Nice save. Such peasant. Very relate.

At first, I was actually impressed. I may have even been among those in appreciation of the Prince’s gesture, flying among the peasants and all… until I started looking into the whole thing. Here’s the thing, it was a flight from Memphis to Dallas. A flight lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes at most. Also, he’s sitting at the very front, and boarded privately from the rest of the passengers. Ok… but such domestic flights, especially when such a short distance, don’t even have options for First Class seating… the first couple of seats are merely considered First Class. But hey, after a trip that cost UK taxpayers a reported $84,000 for security of the young royals during their jaunt to the Memphis wedding. But footed the bill for the trip–aside from the security–themselves. Had Kate been with him, I highly doubt we’d have seen them fly coach, unless, of course, for PR purposes.

Had William flown among us peasants in economy from Dallas to London, well then I’d be rather impressed. But he obviously didn’t, or we’d have that being shoved down our throats, too.

As for Prince Harry’s travel arrangements back to the UK? I think Vanity Fair said it best:

Harry, however, was nowhere to be seen on William’s flight, which means it is still possible thetwerk-happynewly single redhead returned to London on a gold-plated private jet piloted by Snoop Dogg, populated by the casts of the three most recent Real World seasons, and D.J.ed by an Avicii-Skrillex collaboration.

Prince Harry plus Cressida equals?

Cressida and Harry

Drama. Lots of drama. The amount of conflicting reports, sometimes from the same news source (hello, Daily Mail!), what are we really to believe? Was she ‘too needy’ or not? Is Prince Harry ‘bombarding‘ her with 15 texts a day? Does this have Kate’s fingerprints all over it? (Spoiler alert: probably.) Is it not over for the two? Who knows. I certainly hope so. I’m still pulling for Chelsy Davy… but that’s a story for another post, maybe later this week?

Anyway, I wanted to post this solid point from a comment I got about the whole debacle (and my saying I think Prince Harry’s camp should apologize for the ‘too needy’ accusation):

I don’t think his camp needs to apologize for calling her needy because her camp has been treading on him in the press as well. She would have been a major headache had she married in because that family of hers has been doing nothing but courting the press and leaking since he started dating her. Notice how there are only paparazzi photos of her and engagement rumors when Harry is out of the UK. She also has been represented by StuartWattsPr since they began dating. Those were her intentions from the beginning. I don’t feel sorry for her she tried to play the game and she lost.

*Slow Clap* Great point.

(I love your all’s comments! Keep them coming. I had hoped this site would start discussions!)

Royal roll call

The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Tour Australia And New Zealand - Day 1

Though I’d be lying if I said I expected to see them for months after their vacation grueling tour and all their work, I wish we could see a little bit of George in the country he will someday rule… but, seeing as how they pretty much hid him for 7 months after his christening, I’m an idiot to expect anything else. Maybe we’ll see him on his sixteenth birthday if the media continues to play into all of Prince William and Kate’s requests, maybe.

Many are speculating that the ducal couple headed straight from Australia to yet another holiday, perhaps even Switzerland to ski. (Prince William was seen in the Swiss Air lounge in Chicago.) Love, Lola has a really good post about just this topic.

I think skiing is anything but a vacation–holy workout!–but I also think the Royal Tour was anything but ‘a lot of work.’ But then again, I’ve never had to have my hair and makeup done every morning, don custom dresses, and collect dozens of bouquets from doting fans for a few hours everyday, so who am I to know the stress Kate must endure each day on behalf of the monarchy.

So much gossip to process. I don’t even really know how I feel about it all. What are your thoughts?
